After the 4-track EP and the split LP with Crimen de Estado, this is the first
album by Sudor. Strongly inspired by Discharge and Finnish hardcore in the
music, but with a very special humour sense that reminds me HHH, Sudor

If you've enjoyed their split with Saywhy?, or any other of their last splits, you'll want to listen to this, and you won't be dissapointed. Really tight and powerfull powerviolence mixed with ultrafasthardcore and grindcore, with lots of breaks and perfect execution.

Un colega (Hola Kepa) organiza este concierto (y el siguiente) en Zarautz y me ha pedido que se los anuncie en el blog. Aunque llevo mucho tiempo sin actualizarlo, si es por una buena causa, como estos conciertos, me siento obligado a actualizarlo y ayudarle en la medida de lo posible.

No Slogan began in late 2002 as a side project for members of Pretentious Assholes, I Attack and Los Jodidos. Amador, Benny, Chris and Danny wanted to start a band that played in a very Midwest early 80's style. Although all of the members come from different backgrounds (grind/crust, metal, h.c., punk) we all had a love for early 80's Midwest punk (Toxic Reasons, Zero Boys, Naked Raygun, Articles of Faith, The Effigies, etc.). Let's face it No Slogan is a "wanna be" Bhopal Stiffs tribute band. However, we will never come close to being as good as them, but we try.

We don't remember when our first show was and all of that other bullshit, all we know is that we have played w/ a bunch of good bands, and some really shitty ones as well (often times us being the shitty one!). The important thing is that we have met a ton of cool people within the diy scene during our time in this band, and that's all that really matters.

Lyrically, our songs deal with/talk about circumstances that affect us (the band) day in, day out. Everything from gentrification in our neighborhoods, to our right to protest in the streets (even under the 2nd incarnation of the Daley Machine/Gestapo regime), how much we hate urban hipsters, the police state that inner city kids in Chicago live under, fashion punks who won't be punks by the time they reach 21, upper middle class white boys from the suburbs who think it's so cool and shocking to sport Swazi t-shirts, the exploitation of "illegal" workers in our communities and generally how much we hate right wing America amongst other things. No Slogan is a pro-Paiza (Mexican slang, look it up pendejo), kill whitey band (even the 1.5 Caucasians in the band hate whitey).

Collectively as a band we do consider ourselves a politically conscious band (not as politically active as we should be) and have no qualms about expressing our points of view on and off the microphone. We have no problem with punk as a primal scream, art expression or nihilism but when you start making comments or recordings bashing immigrants, women, minorities and gays then you are no longer apolitical or artistic. Such comments make you a dickhead and ARE political. Fuck trying to be like Sid Vicious, Stiv Bators was much cooler!

No Slogan will play just about anywhere (some people say we play out too much, fuck 'em) providing the space/show is not booked by or with racist, homophobic, major label sponsorship bands or people. If you have a basement or any other dive please contact us!!!

Danny Attack was our first drummer and started the band w/ us but left us in November of 2004 because his metal band Malas and his other band I Attack are much better than us, and his other band mates kept bitching about he was in too many bands. In all honesty Danny left on very good terms and will be sorely missed.
Joe Skeletor is an old friend and has fit right in w/ the band, but he too is a band whore who plays in too many bands. Nonetheless, he has already written a shitload of new songs w/ us and loves Midwest punk as much as he loves grind core. Better yet he's also a "southsider"!!!!! Well Amador is a Humboldt Park native (pre-gentrification you fucking hipsters) but he's cool and a "Paiza" so he's off the hook. You don't have to be a "southsider" to be in the band but you do need ghetto credentials.

Here it is, the 3rd offering (7")by Chicago punkers, No Slogan. This EP starts off exactly where their last left off. 3 new tracks of dark yet melodic punk with great hooks and catchy choruses. I especially like the singing on this ep, snotty at times, but very aggressive. You can also see a lot of influence ranging from Articles of Faith to the Wipers on this recording.
Definitely their best record yet! (Desobediencia Records)

Energetic and tuneful songs and an impassioned vocal delivery. Echoes of Articles of Faith can be heard here, particularly for "Let's Kill," while "KGB" has a little bit Effigies and early Naked Raygun. In other words, No Slogan have a Chicago punk inspiration coursing through their veins but manage to avoid sounding derivative. Following me here? As promised last time, here's a review of No Slogan's debut full-length and the 7" only hinted at how strong this release was going to turn out. The "m" term i.e. melodic has been bandied about quite a bit in this space now and forever but it can't be avoided in regard to No Slogan and neither can the references to Chicago punk history in the way they harness brawn with tunefulness from the Raygun-ish rock of "KGB," (re-done from the "Killed By Gentrification 7") to the Articles of Faith-driven style of "Trepidation." I'm not quite sure why they named a song "Howard Jones" and give thanks (another gratuitious AOF reference) that it ain't 80s synth-pop (although I am partial to some of that stuff) but another urgent-sounding hardcore song. And whereas HoJo had those uplifting type of lyrics, that ain't the case here. "Death Of Cool" observes the situation from Barack Obama's Chicago backyard and the question is "where is our prosperity?" Indeed. (http://subvox.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html)

First full-length LP by the hardest hitting punk/hardcore band to come out of Chicago in almost a decade. This LP rips from classic mid-tempo punk to raging hardcore by spitting out dark words of alienation and pure head-spinning anger. Instant punk classics like "Capacity to Hate" and "Dead" have a pounding texture to the guitars and drums that make the tracks both catchy and powerful at the same time. Aversion Therapy is No Slogan's strongest musical statement to date and captures the purest sound of abrasive, dark, and melodic hardcore-punk. Please allow me a moment a full-on fan-geek moment here, ‘cause truth be told, I saved listening to this until dead last. I didn’t do this because I was afraid it was gonna suck, but because I knew it was gonna be something truly special, and I was sure I was gonna need something to end things on an up note after some of the heinous stuff that was buried in the selections I strapped myself with this review cycle. This is one of my favorite bands currently making the rounds, but I was not remotely prepared for how good it was actually is. Dig catchy, no-frills hardcore from a band with just enough melodic sense to cram crazy hooks into the tunes they’re flailing away on? You got ’em. Prefer a more Naked Raygun-esque mid-tempo attack with said hooks infused with just a little off-kilter influences to give ’em a little tweak? Check. Are you just looking for a 12” slab of hit-encrusted vinyl that recalls the best of ‘80s punk rock without being saddled with all the annoying nostalgia? There are eleven tracks of prime punk fodder here for the taking that will shut the yap of the noisiest “I miss when punk was punk” whiner on your block, boyo. I’ve been listening to these guys consistently up the ante from one EP to the next and figured they’d have a helluva time surpassing their Killed by Gentrification EP, but this, their first full-length, is hands down their best effort yet, one that deserves to be among the most treasured items in your record collection and played incessantly. Dunno how many copies are out there, but I suggest you buy in bulk as soon as you can ’cause this is destined to be considered a classic in no time. These torch-holders for Chicago working class punk are here with their long-awaited debut full-length. In my opinion, this is their best stuff ever, combining the Naked Raygun-style hooks that made their No Pasaran 7" so great with a thicker, more melodic guitar sound that brings to mind Pegboy or Give Thanks-era Articles of Faith. For a small period of time I took No Slogan for granted, as weird as that may seem. They seemed to play every third show I went to, always played a solid set of mostly newer tunes, did their thing. After finally getting my hands on the full length, never again. Usually when people use the term "Chicago Punk" they limit their references to the big hitters like Raygun and Pegboy when they should be including No Slogan's arsenal of big riffs and woahs. I have to post this. There isn't any way around it. Canadian Rifle are my favorite punk band and this 7" (their first) is perfect. I first discovered this band because I read that it featured members of Hellbender and Challenger (which I took to mean Al Burian) and I grabbed it immediately. Later I would learn that the artwork and layout were done by Al Burian, but he wasn't actually in the band. It didn't matter though because even Al Burian couldn't make this band (and especially this release) any better. It has gone through a few different pressings on various colored vinyl/sleeves, and one day, out of pure love, I'll own them all. Right now I'm good with one, until it stops playing. IN DEFENCE-Into The Sewer (Learning Curve, CD)
The Minneapolis band who have their name spelled wrong, claims to contrary on “In Defense Is Our Name Spelled Wrong” (maybe they think they’re from the UK), go over the metallic cliff here and welcome the collision I’d imagine. This is some fired up riffa-thrash-a-rama starting with the opening chords of “Lessons In Headbanging.” Crunchy bits of NYHC slip in there, as well. Ben Crew barks out the vocals with conviction as he emotes about such pressing issues as the lameness of pizza (“The Only Good Thing About Pizza Is The Crust”), a dearth of circle pits (“Don’t Call Me A Moshist”) and even throws in an anti-Reagan sentiment or two (“Total Filler No Killer”). Yeah, it’s kind of silly and one wonders how much of it is tongue-in-cheek and how much is serious. I used to wonder the same about Good Clean Fun but In Defence are WAY better than those guys and these songs throttle nicely. I've liked IN DEFENCE for a while now, with their no-frills thrascore mixed with some straight edge hardcore, kind of like an American VITAMIN X. They sing about seixsm, the virtues of DIY, government surveillance, how to spell their name (British-style with a "c" for some reason), and of course the superiority of tacos to pizza-I have to say that i'm in middle of that last one. It would be great if people supported us by coming to shows and buying our records. Having limited New Zealand punk vinyl and having a ripped copy are two entirely different things though and i have no problem if people want to listen to our music. GERIATRIC UNIT - DISTANCE AND DAMAGE

The follow up to last years 'Life Half Over', their third release and second one with Bosstuneage. Easily their best so far and these 12 tracks prove it and showing that even the old boys get better with age. Totally fast, un adultered and uncompromising hardcore, that is straight to the point with no apologies given. Just think of the best bands you can think of in hardcore; NEGATIVE APPROACH, POISON IDEA, NECROS etc and you'll get the idea. I love the vocals, in that they are just an adrenalin rush of pent up fury, thundering guitar riffage, bass licks and drumming all which are top notch. The recording/production on this is fantastic as you can hear everything clearly and that is crucial in this day and age, plus having a good sound only adds to this already explosive force. The lyrics complement the music, in your face, angry and definitely no let up. It's old, it's fast and it's definitely loud. Geriatric Unit - Distance And Damage

I’ll keep this short and to the point, because that’s exactly how Geriatric Unit keep their tunes. In fact, that’s how they keep the entirety of Distance and Damage - which may include an album-esque quota of twelve tunes, but manages to rattle through them all in well under quarter of an hour.

“Old-Fast-Loud!” reads the strapline on the rear sleeve of my review copy, and that just about sums it up. Geriatric Unit are a veteran supergroup of UK hardcore punk musicians - and when I say hardcore punk, I don’t mean the skinny-trousered haircut warriors who’ve reappropriated the term of late. Written and performed by former members of bands like Iron Monkey, Heresy and Hard to Swallow, Distance And Damage makes no concessions to fashion. And - unless you’re an aficionado of the sound already - it doesn’t make any concessions to accessibility either.

Indeed, Distance And Damage is the sound of older musicians who’ve come to accept their age (hence the band name, and songs like “Don’t Want To Be Young Again”) but who don’t see that as any reason to go back on the principles that hardcore was originally built upon. Geriatric Unit have all the channelled fury of a younger act, but tempered with the wisdom of experience.

For listeners not accustomed to the old hardcore style, it might be interesting to see Distance And Damage as capturing the sound that provides the link between punk and thrash metal: the frantic pace, driven by eighth-note snares; the simple direct lyrics, shrieked or bellowed or howled. Thrash took this template and added showy virtuosity and progressive arrangements, but Geriatric Unit are quite content with four chords, one chorus and a handful of verses per song, all hammered out at a BPM that would make a gabba DJ wince.

In short, Distance And Damage is not fun, friendly or fashionable… and I’m confident Geriatric Unit themselves would agree with me on all three counts, because they’ve quite deliberately made it that way. As such, the white-belts-and-box-fresh-hats brigade won’t be interested, but the hardcore of hardcore - the older guys who never let their ideals die - will hear this and itch for the push and shove of the pit. i haven't find any info about them, except what i can read in their myspace, but after have listened once, i have to put in the blog. Great fast 80's hardcore!!!. While i listened to it i've think in Attitude Adjustment and Toe To Toe. Not that they sound like that bands, but for whatever reason it's what come to my mind (maybe the voice?)
i'm really bad at triying to review music, but if you enjoy most of the music of this blog, you'll enjoy this too.

EXCELLENT record! Debut EP from Memphis' TN own Vile Nation. Very mean and ugly fast thrash hardcore with a heavy dose of punk. One can't listen to this and not hear the 1st 7'' era of D.R.I and Negative FX and bands of that same time frame and caliber being channeled here. Chris just spews the words out mean and fast and the band keeps up. The guitar player from Life Trap also plays in this band, but honestly DON'T buy it for that reason, this band kicks a ton of ass without that bit of know how. Words can't describe how utterly amazing this record is, its just great great great! (Cowabunga Records)

In my opinion, one of the best records in recent times. Great, great, great!!!

Civil Terror has only one motto and that is: 'Put your pedal to the metal', resulting in fast, raging terror not unlike Infest, SSD or Judas Priest. Since their demo sold out ages ago and the band got sick of dubbing tapes, it was time to release all 10 songs on vinyl. The songs have been mostly re-recorded, mixed and mastered so on the whole it should sound even better than the incredible demo.

NOTE: Tracks 1,2 and 6 contain two songs each since they were impossible to split.

Another record by these guys in a relatively short time to coincide with their recent US tour. I liked their first 7", and naturally this sounds pretty similar, so I'm into it. Some of the lyrics are a little weird ("Hamburger Man"?), but English isn't their native language, so maybe cut em a little slack.(http://bleedingedges.net)

THE SHINING-The Word Is Fiction (Pick Up/multi-label, 7” EP)
The second off-the-rails ripper for The Shining. This disc is packaged in an elaborate gatefold sleeve and the music is just as striking. Hell, if it came in a plain white sleeve, I’d feel the same way. Fast, ferocious hardcore punk, a whiff of crossover and hitting all the right buttons. The tinny-to-loud transition to start “Koopziek” is followed by a high-powered rampage that doesn’t let up. I could use even more hyperbole, like saying that smoke is coming from the needle but I think you get the idea. (Suburban Voice/Amp magazine; Al Quint)

This is the second shiny black and white gatefold sleeve I've reviewed this month...is this the new thing? Did i not get the memo? Rip roaring euro core with a slight (very slight) metallic edge. Like COC or the Accused, they have that searing guitar sound and that speed metal riffage coupled with hardcore vocals. Nice to see some folks with a different sound that really works; Good shit (TB)(Maximum Rock'n'Roll)

I thought the first release was pretty good, but this release blows me out of the water. Still the same mix of Negative Approach, Voorhees and Infest but way better and harder than on their previous release. This mini cd contains nine shredding songs, one that is a bit slower and has a dragging taste to it. The lyrics are angry and deal with subjects such as fighting and being pissed at everyone, also a great song about Monster Trucks. The artwork is good and the production is hard hitting and crushing. After only a few minutes the record is done, luckily I have a repeat button, because this is the music to listen to while driving on the highway. After a great LP by Sunpower earlier this year, another Belgium bands delivers an old school record Belgium can be proud of. I could write more about this release, but the best thing to do is check out for yourself!

MilkMan is our Tilburg based 80’s hardcore band from the Netherlands. Once there was a hardcore band called S.R.V. There also was a hardcore band called Kutnaam 1001. It was in the mid-80's era that we and lots of other hardcore bands played in local venues like the BatCave. Ten years later (1994) Kutnaam 1001-vocalist Meeri joined forces with the three S.R.V.-members. From that moment on we existed as MilkMan. The reason for getting together was simple. People didn’t know the real hardcore-music anymore. A lot of young people thought hardcore was all about jumping around on stage. They didn’t know anymore they had to dive off and hit the concrete. So we decided to start a band and show what we thought real hardcore is all about: have fun, drink a beer (before straight edge was invented) and above all be who you are. We started rehearsing and worked on our own material. This resulted in the demo "It's Not a Choice" (1995) and our first cd "Combover World" (1998). Loud, fast and tight was going to be our motto. We played our first gigs and appeared on a couple of compilations. In 2000 Kangaroo Records from Amsterdam started to show interest in the band. Having a reputation for releasing loud and fast hardcore we felt it would be the perfect label for us. In 2001 Kangaroo released our second cd “Fresh Fruit For Rotten Aliens”. The music was the most brutal music we’ve ever made. The reactions to the cd were very good and the MilkMan name started to spread further and further, resulting in more compilations (a.o. the official DRI tribute cd) and a split single with Dutch band Plankton. Live the band is becoming tighter and tighter from playing a lot of shows. Live MilkMan means no nonsense, let the music do the talking, full speed ahead shows. So far we played with bands like D.R.I., UK Subs, Cause for Alarm, Poison Idea, Pro-Pain, M.D.C. and the Anti Nowhere League. In January of 2003 we took off for our first European tour. Together with American label mates Out Cold we played 10 shows in countries like Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovak Republic and Czech Republic. The tour once again making us tighter and even more dedicated to spread our music over the world of fast hardcore. Early 2003 we released our third album, “Is this Punk enough for you?”, again on the Kangaroo label. Harder, faster, louder, better than ever before! 21 bursting songs in 24 minutes. For the first time the album has been released not only on cd, but also on vinyl. The coming period we'll be working on new songs which we hope to record sometime soon and do a lot more shows.

De Reproach solo tengo el split E.P. con A.N.S. que supongo que posteare, y Seein Red me parece que ya son lo suficientemente conocidos, y que no sera dificil conseguir cosas suyas en internet.

Song of the Week: Reprobates: Failure

I first heard of Toronto’s Reprobates when an unsolicited demo tape arrived in the Sorry State Records mailbox. While most demos tend to get tossed to the side and listened to weeks later, something about this tape stuck out… the layout didn’t look slapped-together, and every indication pointed to the fact that this group had their shit together. I popped the tape in the deck and wow… the band blew me away with one of the toughest, meanest sounds I’d heard in ages. While more and more hardcore bands try and cop the melodic west coast aesthetic, Reprobates were amping up the influences from “tough” US hardcore like Negative Approach and SOA and adding in a little of the European flavor of bands like BGK. I was smitten and sent them an email immediately asking to put out their debut 7″. Later that day I got a reply from their guitarist, Gabby, saying that several other labels had contacted them and they’d already committed to doing records with those labels, but I could put out their 3rd or 4th 7″ if they wanted. I guess that all those other labels had pretty much my exact same experience when they opened that package.

Fast forward a few months to No Way Fest 2, where Reprobates played and knocked my socks off. For me, they were probably the band of the fest… while more established bands like Wasted Time and Government Warning may have gotten better reactions, I wasn’t blindsided by those sets the way that I was by Reprobates. Their feedback-drenched, two-guitar sound was so much thicker and more twisted than any other band (save perhaps Wasted Time and Double Negative) that they really stuck out from the crowd.

Reprobates also have an undeniable knack for building and releasing tension, a knack that is on near-perfect display on “Failure,” the opening track from their first 7″ on No Way Records. The absolutely crushing mid-paced riff that starts the track is straight out of the SS Decontrol songbook, but the loud feedback track is what truly sets this apart… it’s like the second guitarist is feeling it so hard that he can’t even bring himself to strum that simple riff. When the fast part comes in there’s no stab at melody or even control… it’s just relentless, Deep Wound-style thrashing, and just when you feel like you’re regaining your equilibrium the song shifts back into that slow, demented riff. Wow.

This is a song of the week post, not an EP of the week post, but I will say that you absolutely need this record. The title track, “Stress,” is just as good as “Failure” and the rest of the EP is no slouch either. Throw in killer artwork and packaging and you have one of the essential hardcore records of 2008.

The 2nd half of the NJ demo from 2006 put to wax, it was 1 half on the ST 7" last year and this is the 2nd half of course. Pretty much what you'd expect just HARDCORE nothing techinical or way out there, just straight forward and ultra pissed. The dudes take cues from early Boston hardcore, later 80's hardcore from the East Coast and Japan and their own influeces and tastes. Simply put one of the best in hardcore, enough said. Was the word hardcore used enough or what? Of course this is most of the members of Second Opinion and they're coming out with more material so keep your ears open to that. (Cowabunga Records)

At first listen, Nightstick Justice has a sound combining inventive, change-of-pace hardcore that recalls Minor Threat (second ep), and mixes it up with a Jerry's Kids-type intensity. They hail from Half Moon Bay, CA, but the six tracks here are definitely world class, with production that's thick and tinged with feedback; the lyrics cover topics of personal protest (violence against women in shows, with the added pressure of cops), and always seem genuine. Hard hitting, fast, thrashing hardcore. The lyrics range from the rage of working class people to disgust of the death portrayed by the media every day. From Baltimore MA.

On Yellow Dog Records is "Panic in the Face of Time", from Baltimore, MD's A Warm Gun, who I had never heard of before. They blaze through 13 tracks of short, fast, furious hardcore/punk in less than 20 minutes - with a grinding metallic edge that amps up the heaviness and gives the album a different sort of vibe as a whole. Only one track passes the two-minute mark, but they're definitely building upon an array of influences, from old school NYHC sounding power chords to straightforward fast blasting rhythms or the occasional tinge of sinister dissonance. The lead vocals also have a unique sound to 'em, with an aggressive sort of snarl that doesn't take things over the top - granted there are also some fierce high-end sneers (and sparse low growls) that, when present, definitely lean more towards a grindcore sort of aesthetic. I don't really care for the cover art at all (the material deserves something a bit more… I don't know… fitting, I suppose), but the recording is nice and crisp and the writing/performances are right on the mark. I have no idea if this is the band's first "full-length" or what, but I'll be curious to see where they end up. Not bad! (www.aversionline.com)

Baltimores thrashers blow you away!! fucking fast and brutal old school hc trax, with some harsh metal influence (www.yellowdog.de)

Ever since the first bands who started to play rougher and harder music leading up to metal and punk there has been a continuously growing smorgasbord of influences for bands to pick up on, and A Warm Gun are a hungry bunch grabbing a little of pretty much everything. The core here is short, fast, and loud hardcore but with some metal guitars, some metal vocals, some crusty as well as thrashy riffs, ditto drumming with some blast beats here and there… It took a while for me to get into this and a bit longer before I could come to terms with the vocals, but now that I have I realize that this stuff isn't bad at all.
The opening tracks start out quite heavy and then rapidly double the speed and anger just to seconds later go into some groovy breakdowns. This is the deal all throughout - interchanging and varied I mean, not repeating the first track. Personally I think A Warm Gun are great when they lower the tempo and deliver their frustration with a little rhythm. The faster parts are raging no doubt, but don't offer the same uniqueness one could hope for. But again, the variation and combination of different styles make this record quite unique as a whole and that's what counts. They're not really treading new ground and won't name a genre, but if you want some grind-thrash-crust-metal-fast-core that's being done good this is the band to turn to. (attackfanzine.net)

Este disco me lo ha pedido un "anonimo mexicano" (espero que lo veas) en algun comentario, y aunque me ha costado conseguirlo, aqui esta. No los conocia, pero despues de leer el comentario escuche alguno de sus temas en su myspace, y pense que si veia el disco en algun concierto me lo pillaria. Estuve hace 2 semanas en Barcelona y me lo pille en el concierto de Subterranean Kids. Para los que os gusta la mayoria de lo que posteo, tambien os gustara esto. Ah!, muchas gracias a Dani por pasarme el vinilo a cd y fotografiar la portada y contraportada, que estan incluidas en el rar.

This record was requested by an "anonimo mexicano" in some comment, and although it have take some time to get it, finally it's here. I didn't know'em, but after read the comment, i listened their myspace songs, and thought that if i saw the record in some gig i'll buy it. I was 2 weeks ago in Barcelona seeing Subterranean Kids, and got it from some guy with lots of good records. If you like most of the stuff i post, you'll like this one too. After some years of activity and two 7"s released on US labels like 625 and Know Records, this band from Belgrade, Serbia managed to release their full length album. This is no bullshit, high-energy, great sounding hardcore, taking the best elements of fast US 80's hardcore with good examples of european hardcore without any re-hash and not being stucked in the past. This how real hardcore should sound in 2006, with very good sound, fast tempos but also good amount of diversities in their songs, to keep them kicking through all the 14 songs on the recordings. Yet, this band have definitely lots of attitudes and important things to say. Finally, three years after the last release, LETS GROW’s first album is out. The album has 13 songs (officially :)) and perhaps what I like the most about the album, its variety. Everything is packed into the LETS GROW sound, there aren’t any unpleasant jumps or mixing of all and everything but definitely there isn’t the “Ouch! But all the songs are the same!” either. And I think that that variety is exactly what makes the album interestnig to listen to. As for the sound, it’s aggressive, fast and edgy in the LG style but also with rocker parts and in some places subdued rhythms.
The lyrics refer to different themes inspired by various reflections, events and feelings. Some stand for themselves while others have an additional background story, like on previous LG releases.

I like that this is one more HA-KO release (which I also noticed in the Unison’s THE SUM) where the growth of the band is apparent; keeping the old sound but also transforming it into something new, fresh and as far as LG is concerned, more ‘serious’. With each release, Serbia's Let's Grow does, indeed, grow as a band. Their new album is called Disease Of Modern Times and it's a dose of ripsaw hardcore punk with rock 'n' roll lead guitar licks. Thrash in different speeds, sometimes opting fot the double-speed blast and they shift easily into circle pit-inspiring breakdowns. Smack in the middle of this album, there's a killer mid-tempo 9 Shocks-style song called "Man Is The Measure". The cover shows a lonely soul, shaded in darkness, staring at a computer screen that says "no new messages" and ties in with other themes of alienation expressed on this album. This band born from the ashes of MRTVA BUDOCNOST. After a demo and a split 7" with MINDLOCK, we have a full EP...6 new tracks + a D.R.I. cover. The style is HC/Violence sometimes like bands on Prank/Crimetinc. Rec. Modern yet violent HC with well done and structured songs. Harsh vocals, chaotic music (but a chaos with a certain order...) and political/personal lyrics. Great stuff.(Perro Maldito issue 2)

After successful split 7" with MINDLOCK it's time for more.In line-up of SYIH is ex-crew of thrash-punk MRTVA BUDOUCNOST. Tunes are much better, more twisted, there is almost no fat playing, just broken rhytms, slow and heavy, a bit Emo-Violence where you can hear RORSCHACH and BORN AGAINST, but inclinations to thrash are preceptible, sometimes you can ever hear CITIZEN'S ARREST and few dodges similar to MAN IS THE BASTARD. And as a dessert DRI and my favourite "Violent Pacification", very nice EP. Colour cover, lyrics in Czech and English, political and engaged. 7 songs of good kick ass punk. (VIOLENCE issue 4)

Powerful hardcore punk from the Czech Republic that barrows from several styles and churns out their own unique sound(closest band that comes to my mind is Catharsis). Lots of tempo changes, breaks, and melodic breakdowns - all played in a perfect performance tighter than the ass crack of a bicycle cop. Lyrics (in Czech, but with English translations) explore the darker side of humanity, and include a cover of DRI's "Violent Pacification." (DS) (PROFANE EXISTENCE website)

Again a band from the Czech Republic to review. Fast hardcore this time. That's fastcore with a touch of grind here and there to be precise. Sung in Czech which gives it a mean bite to my opinion. Good material because it's fast, to the point and mean. Recordings a bit muddy but the quality is recognizable. There's a DRI cover on as well so you know what this is like. (REFLECTIONS issue 15)

Divshare ha puesto un limite de descarga para las cuentas gratuitas de 50GB al mes. Hace 2 dias estaba en el 30% mas o menos y hoy me encuentro con que esta al 100%. Sorprendemente hay por lo menos un disco que ha sido descargado mas de 100 veces en estos 2 dias, lo que es bastante extraño, ya que no creo que sea normal ese ritmo de bajadas, pero bueno, habra que tragar con lo que hay y esperar al 16 de Febrero para seguir descargando.

Como este ha sido el primer mes que hacen esto, el mes que viene intentare controlar mas como va el ritmo de descargas, y si esto ha sido una cosa puntual, o si voy a tener el mismo problema todos los meses. En este caso, ya empezare a usar alguna otra pagina, pero por ahora me gustaria seguir usando divshare.
Ya veremos lo que se me ocurre!!!

He visto que no se podra descargar de nuevo hasta el 16 de Febrero, no hasta el 1, como pensaba yo. Asi que imagino que si en unos 10 dias he superado los 50GB, tendre el mismo problema casi todos los meses.

Shifting to hardcore we have the second 7" from Austin Texas' Total Abuse, which is particularly devastating attack of vintage hxc thrash laid down rough and heavy. The group's 06 demos are what's here and the band sound in fine form, certainly focused and tight with great buildups and vicious vocals. Total Abuse play with a relentless but catchy energy that is destructive and fulfilling. While certain sections become a bit blasty there is certainly songs and riffs at the center here. Fans of Siege should certainly take note. Released on the Even Worse label, these demos show the start of what hopes to be a long run for these guys as the world can always use more nasty, vehement punk bands. Made up of former members of the Snobs, Total Abuse have been generating some praise from punx and this release makes such affirmations entirely credible. This 7" is a great X-mas gift for the drunk crusty that asks you for change every day. (Fader Magazine)

Virginia's SOCIALCIDE return, with their first "official" 7" EP, after their ltd "sick of the pressure" demo 7", and waddayaknow?!, Socialcide deliver 8 songs of raw energetic, pit slammers. Going for a slightly more of an old NY or even Boston sound with classic hc themes, like youthfull desperation, personal frustration, to all out pissed off!, the vocals stand out as well, keeping it highly original, along with great 82' style guitar ridden riffs, and all out great musicianship.definetely fits well,with all the other great bands VA,is flooding us with right now, Direct Control, Government Warning, Wasted Time, Bad Advice, etc..the list goes on. The debut 7’’ from VA’s Socialcide. The demo was amazing and so is this ep. It’s def more raw than the demo was, which was more well recorded but the differences are also that the demo was like Boston meets old 7 seconds where this one sounds even more obscure and channels old New York with old Boston, like Wolfpack (not the sketchy version, but the upstate NY one who they cover here), old DYS, and the Mob. SOCIALCIDE-Burn In Hell, Bundy (Kangaroo/Even Worse, 7” EP)Slam-bang hardcore, following a rip-snortin’ demo that Even Worse pressed on vinyl. One interesting thing is the new recording sounds rougher than the demo. In any case, Socialcide’s calling card is raw, old-school hardcore, established ca. 1982, although their cover of Wolfpack NYC’s “Suicide” dates from the later part of the decade. In fact, there’s an early Revelation Records feeling, as well, with the fuzzed-out guitar and breakdown style. And those bands were trying to bring back an older feel, as well. I am always stoked when a band like this comes out. SOCIALCIDE plays fast hardcore in the key of early '8os dirty sounding guitars and hollow production. In other words, they got it right. The band is out of Virginia, but not Richmond! They make that very clear in the song "Follow the herd", wich sounds like it is about someone who moved from their beloved suburb to Richmond ("Trench City"). A part of the new wave of bands coming out on No Way Records and grave mistake, and although they are not on either of those labels, you should seriously check this out if you're into that stuff.(PL) (Maximum Rocknroll)

Brest, Rainiest town in France, Fall 2005, from the ashes of their previous bands five kids decided the time was right to put some fun back in the hardcore scene that had became so dull and clean. First thing : choose a name ! They thought of calling themselvers No Time To Lose, but it was already taken by an obscure French band, nevermind they finally made their minds for Thrashington D.C., way much cooler isn't it? Then, choose a style and try to fit in it! Somewhere between fast punk and rock'n'roll, as if The Explosion got fucked by Limp Wrist... Thrashington DC went on with recording songs which were released on a cd-r with Spitfast from Japan (on Kawaii Records), playing a lot of shows in France and even Belgium in 2006. They recorded their first album "To Live and Die in BMO" to be released in April 2007 on La FÚe Verte. And as a consecration of their hard work they will be playing at the Free Edge Fest 3 in June 2007. The show must go on!

Socialcide- Sick of the Pressure demo

Socialcide is a young-ish new band from the Virginia Beach area. It seems that whole section of the east coast is a virtual hotbed of great hardcore bands, and the promise that Socialcide on their “Sick of the Pressure” demo shows is no exception. It’s got a raw sound, but just right for their style; the mix is great and the songs are quality enough to even have made for a good 7”. Lord knows I’ve heard enough full length CDs that sounded worse than this.
Musically, they’ve got a thrashy, early 7 Seconds-ish style, and throw in a good cover of home-town heroes White Cross into the mix. That’s a good point of reference because although the vocals have a clear, shouted delivery (not nearly as throaty as W.C.), they’re a bit more over-the-top and chaotic than 7 Seconds typically was, and White Cross’s grit definitely had an influence on them. In fact, this demo reminds me a lot of that first Fairfuck single some of you might remember from 10 years back (the first Kicknpunch Records release, which was later issued by Anton at Underestimated). What with some great labels popping up between DC and Raleigh, it’s just a matter of time until someone picks these kids up; I’m sure they’ll do a great 7”

The 1978 self titled LP from Belgiums punk legends The Kids. To my mind one of the very best of 1970's punk records and one of the greatest punk records of all time. This record sold well on it's release but has been long out of print and the band faded into obscurity overshadowed by the better marketed UK and US bands. In my world this record rocks harder and has more punk power than all the household name punk bands of the 70's like the Sex Pistols and the Damned. The Kids cut right to the essense of punk, and indeed rock and roll music, by fusing the high energy and rebellious spirit of 1950's rock and roll with 77 punk. The songs on here are all classics and have gained a cult following with collectors and fans through bootleg releases. Now Havoc and Sonik have teamed up to re issue this classic LP on vinyl with the approval of the band. Included are two bonus tracks not on the original LP and an insert with lyrics and a few photos (the original had no insert). The lyrics are not going to win any nobel prizes for literature, but they are truly punk and steeped in snotty defiance of authority. Songs like "Fascist Cops" and "Old DJs" capture the spirite of 77 punk like no others. Havoc has done the vinyl only, co release with Sonik Records of Montreal. Sonik has also issued the first two Kids LPs on CD.

Seeing these guys live at Chaos in Tejas was a once in a lifetime gig I'll never forget. Watching these guys still going after 30 years and still having a great time and rocking hard was just too good to be true. Rock N Roll "It's my life 'til I die"

SUBSISTANCE-BLEED SWEAT & STRIVE(CD-ARISEN RECORDS ARS 62626) They have played together with bands like Total Chaos, Conflict, When I fall and that gives us an idea how about they sound. Fast punkrock with hardcoreinfluneces and that´s never wrong or? The group comes from France and they sing both in English and in French and that´s good I think because French is a good rocklanguage I think even if I don´t undersnad something. Sure we have some influences from groups like Exploited, Discharge and so on but I cannot say any French group they sounds like. But these three guys really know how to make a fast song that´s no doubt about that. And we get some heavymetalinfluences also in Madrid´s Verdict but that´s nothing which is disturbing. (EIGHT)

These guys are separated from the pack by two throat-shredding vocalists, great production and vehemently anti-Christian lyrics. Recommended for fans of early Dr. Know, Strung Up and Direct Control.

If there wasn’t a lyric sheet with this single I’d have no idea just how harsh this record was. With songs railing against Catholics, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Christians in general, this isn’t a record to play your religious Grandmother, no matter how open minded you think she is. These guys play hyper-fast, brutal hardcore and throw around lyrics like “Saint Mary was a whore and so are you”. This is a record for people who might like their Koro mixed with anti-religious sentiment. Good stuff. I don’t know much about the band, but the Sorry State site says this record is a posthumous release which is too bad. That cover is perfect for a t-shirt too, just a thought.

Severed Head of State return with nine punishing new tracks. Hard driving riffs and angry vocals give this release a real fist pumping intensity. A lot of the songs are more mid tempo in the tradition of mid period Poison Idea and other hardcore punk bands that took some cues from Motorhead. Severed Head of State have been going for ten years now, but are a band with no geographic center and with all members playing in other bands. Guitarist Todd Burdette (Tragdy, HisHero Is Gone, Warcry) delivers some really searing guitar riffs on this LP and the guitar tone is perfect for the style, biting and corrosive like battery acid. Jack Control (World Burns to Death) has always impressed me with his raw and angry vocals and well thought out lyrics. A lot of bands write about the horror of war and man's inhumanity to man just because it's what fits the music. When I read Jack's lyrics I see that he's looking beyond the black and white pictures of war victims in the history books. The atrocities are not the result of one criminal act, but of the recurring process of unrestrained power and authority run amok. The bleak lryics and their focus on oppression and atrocity are a searing reminder that there is much to be done and things will probably get worse before they get any better. I've always though bassist Kelly Halliburton (Masskontroll, Defiance, Clusterbombunit, Resist) had some of the best style in hardcore dropping in some of his crucial Discharoge style "walking" bass fills. Drummer Chris Pfeffer (Signal Lost, Storm the Tower, Scorched Earth Policy) holds it all together with some sick and precise beats
